President Trump Overturns Recall on Romaine Lettuce

President Trump set another new precedent today, issuing an executive order to block a nation-wide recall on romaine lettuce that would have cost the agriculture industry an estimated $50 million.

Calling the ban a "witch-hunt" despite laboratory evidence from multiple states linking it to dozens of cases of E. coli poisoning nationwide, Trump urged Americans to continue eating the potentially contaminated variety of lettuce.

"These kind of things, and I can speak from experience, I can tell you that, are not right. A few people get sick, probably because they're not washing their hands or they're eating food out of a dumpster or what have you, and suddenly we have another witch-hunt happening," he said.

Trump, whose injunction has confounded supply chains and retail outlets while industry and government officials work to determine whether a President of the United States can do such a thing, reassured consumers that romaine lettuce is safe to eat.

"I have eaten - I know several people who have eaten lettuce in the past few days, and they're just fine," he remarked. "It looks fine. It's fine. And besides, there have only been like 40 people get sick. Out of millions. What are the chances?"
