Obama Leaves Ex-Presidents, Embarks On Solo Career

WASHINGTON, DC –

Citing “creative differences” and a need to explore new territory, President Obama this week announced he was leaving the Ex-Presidents, a group that has been his main focus for the past year, to pursue personal projects.

“I have really enjoyed my time with the guys and am proud of the things we accomplished, but it’s time to start a new chapter in my life and I think this is truly going to be the best thing for all of us,” he said in a statement released yesterday.

Tension After Hurricane Relief Appearance

Although the members seem to be parting on good terms, there were reports in the press of some tensions in the group.

“They were always cordial and smiled for the cameras, but you could see that some of the Presidents were not getting along,” said roadie Matt Douglis.

“At the hurricane relief appearance in October, President Carter kept looking past President Clinton as he was talking. And the elder President Bush was checking his watch every five minutes like he had somewhere else to go. They just didn’t seem like they were really enjoying each other’s company the way they used to.”

Despite the rumors, First Lady Michelle Obama was apparently not a distraction for the group. “She would give the other Presidents pointers sometimes, telling them where to stand and what color tie they should wear,” Mr. Douglis said. “But she always went out of her way to make sure the others felt welcome when they were together. This was strictly a creative choice and definitely not a John and Yoko situation.”

A Solo President Obama

The newly solo President did not share what was on the horizon for him, but said “it will be a lot like what I’ve been doing, only taking a more personal approach.”

While being the President most recently in office should give him a lift with audiences, the 44th President said it will take a little getting used to. “It’s a little nerve-wracking being up there by yourself,” he said. “But of course I did that every day during my eight years in the White House. So, I just need to climb back on that bicycle and start pedaling.”

Future Of The Ex-Presidents

Although the members still in the group would not speculate on what the future holds, it’s likely they will remain on tour at least through the end of the year. “There is no shortage of people who want to see them, so I would think they’ll keep it going, at least in the near term. You know, state fairs, that kind of thing,” said Mr. Douglis. “After that, it’s anybody’s guess.”

“If I had to wager, I’d say the younger President Bush might strike out on his own at some point. He’s always trying out new material on people when there is down time on the tour bus. He’s actually pretty good by himself.”

The Ex-President’s next tour stop will be at the Elizabeth Plum Arena in Waco, Texas. Tickets are available thru Ticketmaster.
