MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippines’ former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos wants President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to offer the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani (LNMB) as final resting place for Cuba’s Fidel Castro.

Castro died yesterday at the age of 90, after ruling Cuba for almost half a century.

For the first time ever, Mrs. Marcos revealed a conversation she had with Castro when she and daughter Imee visited Cuba in 1978.

“Fidel idolized Ferdinand. E. Marcos, and he told me that when the time comes, he would like to be buried alongside his fellow dictator,” Imelda told The Adobo Chronicles.

Ferdinand was buried a few weeks ago in the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani despite strong opposition from Filipino politicians and activists.  The “sneaky” burial of Marcos continues to be met with street protests.

Duterte  had approved Marcos’ burial.  The Supreme Court made it possible by deciding in favor of the Marcoses in a case brought before it.

Before Marcos’ remains were transferred to LNMB, they were encased in a refrigerated glass crypt in a mausoleum in his hometown of Batac, Ilocos Norte

“The family of Fidel might not want the former president buried outside of Cuba, but the Philippines should at least make the offfer as a matter of courtesy and international diplomacy,” Imelda added.

The year 2016 marks 70 years of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Cuba. (Now you know!)

Brace for more rounds of anti-burial protests if this happens.
